Therapy Meets Life Coaching—Insights from My Graduate Studies

One of my favorite parts of graduate school is realizing how concepts from clinical mental health therapy apply to everyday life. These aren’t just tools for therapy sessions—they’re tools for anyone who wants to grow.

Insight #1: Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy teaches us to separate ourselves from our problems. Instead of saying “I’m anxious,” we say “Anxiety is showing up.” This shift gives us power to respond differently.

Insight #2: Positive Psychology

Research shows that focusing on strengths—rather than weaknesses—fuels growth. Gratitude journaling, for example, rewires your brain toward positivity.

Insight #3: Resilience and Growth

Studies on post-traumatic growth show that people don’t just bounce back from challenges—they can actually come out stronger and more intentional.

Faith Connection

Scripture aligns beautifully with these insights. God often reframed people’s stories—Moses, Paul, Rahab—into something greater than they imagined.

Therapy and coaching together create a powerful blend: evidence-based tools + encouragement + action steps. And when you add faith? Transformation becomes unstoppable.
